The knockoff Oakleys company history started with motocross grips. Now the manufacturer is best known for glasses of all kinds. From stylish sunglasses for everyday use, to sports glasses, to goggles for motocross, skiing and bike use. We tried the Front Line MX.
On the trail
Fake Oakleys Front Line MX arrives in a small glasses pouch – nothing else is included except for the goggle and pouch. So let’s start right away. The Front Line MX does not fit into all test helmets without problems. Large-cut helmets such as the POC Coron or Fox Rampage Pro are less of a problem. Unlike the Specialized Dissident: The Oakley fits in here. The smaller opening of the helmet ensures that the wide frame is pressed down and against the nose. Overall, the Oakley Front Line MX, with a height of approx. 9 cm, is classified in the lower area, but the distance from the nose area to the top of the frame is quite large at just under 7 cm in relation to the total height. This means that the glasses are on the top faster than other models that sit lower despite the greater overall height.
If the helmet offers enough space, there is hardly any reason to complain about the fit: Thick pads ensure a comfortable fit and seal the Oakley Front Line MX comfortably all around, so that no sweat, water or dirt runs into it. The only thing that would be desirable would be a recess on the nose, especially when using small helmets.
Considering the overall size and the full glazing of the glasses, one expects a relatively large field of vision. This is somewhat reduced by the anchoring of the glass in the frame. This frameless design means that the lens has to be held from the inside – here you work with a second frame that sits between 6 and 14 mm from the edge of the glasses and thus slightly reduces the field of vision. In addition, the glass sits relatively far away from the eye, which in turn ensures a slightly smaller field of vision. With a lot of space between the lens and the eye, the Oakley Front Line MX should also be suitable for corrective lenses.
We noticed that
Replacement part costs € 30 for a clear replacement pane may seem like a lot, but you get double glazing and 100% UV protection. At just under € 100, the Prizm lenses are very expensive.
Durability Watch out! The Prizm coating is particularly susceptible to fine scratches. It pays to always clean the Oakley Front Line MX lens under running water and to clean it after driving through the dirt before stowing it
The lens can be changed quickly, without twisting the lens in all directions and in a few simple steps. There are no excuses for not cleaning the glasses!
Verdict – Oakley Front Line MX
Prizm has already distinguished itself with various victories in the World Cup. And the glass was also able to convince us. The light tint and contrast enhancement of the fake Oakley Front Line MX can show their strengths especially when it is bright. A wide band with silicone strips ensures a secure hold, the fit ensures a comfortable fit.
